Habit: A compact rounded densely branched shrubby perennial 2 to 3 ft tall and wide. Abundant yellow pea-like flowers develop on terminal stalks rising above the foliage in late spring. Plants develop slowly during the first few years as the plants established deep fleshy roots which helps it survive drought and poor soils. Indigenous to dry meadows, oak barrens, pine barrens, open woods and fields throughout the eastern US from New York to Florida. Foliage is deer resistant.
